Orientation: In the strictest sense of the word, Kogasa is a sentient umbrella, so she probably can't be said to have an orientation in the way we'd normally think of it, so let's go with "unknown. "

History: Over here

Appearance: Taken from the Tohuou Wiki: Kogasa has turquoise hair, one turquoise eye and one red eye. Wears a blue-green vest with white sleeves and a light blue skirt. Uses a purple umbrella with an eye and a tongue protruding from it. The design purpose of her eyes is likely to be retaining the appearance of Karakasa obake, which is an one-eyed youkai, by blending her right eye into her hair that has the same color, and to high-light the left-red eye as an one-eyed one. Personality: Perhaps appropriately since she spends most of her time drifting along on the wind, Kogasa is a bit of an airhead. She has trouble paying attention to her surroundings, and often misinterprets things people are saying to her in favor of the way she wants to hear them. This is usually in relation to her attempts to surprise people, as she desperately grasps at straws for new hints and tricks to try. When Marisa mentions how soft Kogasa is compared to other youkai, for example, she draws a comparison with konjac jelly, assuming that she can use it to scare humans. She also takes a passing remark about the daytime to mean that it being night is all that's needed to scare people.

While Kogasa's demeanor is generally cheerful, she also harbors a deep loneliness stemming from her origin as a youkai. The reason she tries so earnestly at surprising people is that this is really the only way she knows of to make friends, something she never had in her former life as a normal umbrella. When she fails often enough or spectacularly enough in trying to surprise someone, Kogasa can sometimes get depressed, wondering why she became a youkai in the first place if she's so bad at the only thing she's supposed to be good at. She also often recalls how she was thrown away and ignored by humans over something trivial like being the wrong color, and because of this it's hard for her to ever feel truly close to someone for fear of being discarded again.

Despite harboring sadness and a certain amount of resentment over being forgotten by humans, Kogasa is relatively harmless and gentle, and her 'attacks' only ever amount to trying to frighten or surprise them. The worst thing she ever threatens to do is going down to mess up Sanae's shrine, and even then this is more out of frustration at being beaten than anything else. Because of this, she's actually one of the weakest youkai in the setting, and gets picked on by a fair portion of the rest of the cast of the games as a result, to the point where even asking for help getting rid of Yoshika when she's trying to haunt the graveyard outside the Myouren Temple gets her beaten up for no good reason.

Abilites: As a karakasa obake, Kogasa's stock in trade is scaring people. Unfortunately, she's pretty terrible at it, and we never really ever see her succeed at her attempts at any point in canon. Of course, this also doesn't stop her from trying. Aside from that, she is adept at flight with the aid of her umbrella, and is also capable of using danmaku, a non-lethal form of combat used by all Touhou characters that takes the form of firing energy bullets in various patterns.

Ever since coming to this town, Kogasa felt completely lost without her umbrella. It had been her constant companion ever since she first gained consciousness as a youkai, and is the only thing that had never left her side the entire time. Friends and acquaintances came and went - such is the life of one who spends all her time drifting on the wind - but the umbrella had always been there for her. It's no wonder she'd been moping around in her more private moments, when none of the residents of the Myouren Temple were watching.

But today, Kogasa had decided to do something about her loneliness. Today, she was out shopping for a new umbrella. It certainly wouldn't be the same as the one from home - after all, what would be the point of attaching an eye and a tongue to something simply meant to shield one from the rain - but it would at least give her some comfort and familiarity while she waited to get the real one back. As Kogasa browsed the aisles, she picked up and opened every last umbrella, testing them one by one to see if any of them felt the same. Regrettably, none of them did.

"It's useless after all, isn't it..." she thought to herself, frowning as she began walking toward the door. But just before leaving, something buried in the bargain bin caught her eye. Curious, Kogasa went over to check and see if that flash of color is what she thought it was. Fishing the item out, it turned out to be a heavily discounted umbrella with a ridiculous and garish looking checkerboard pattern on it. Kogasa looked at the price tag, noticing the many red lines through successively lower prices, and smiled to herself.

"You're all alone too, aren't you? Nobody wanted you because you looked funny." Laughing a little, she hugged the umbrella close as she headed for the registers. "Don't worry. I know how you feel. I'll give you a good home."
